Have you decided that the traditional 200 guest wedding just isn’t for you? Are you adventurous with your heart belonging to the mountains? Below i’ll walk you through my best 5 Tips for Planning a Grand Teton Elopement. Eloping is a very intentional decision and we want to make sure you are able to make the most of it.
Choosing your location
When choosing the location for your Grand Teton Elopement you will want to keep in mind weather, accessibility and permits. I have a blog post Things to know before you elope in GTNP if you need more info on how to obtain a permit and what locations are available at what times of year.
Ways to include your Family
Whether you choose to have them there or include them in another way, remember this is about you and your partner and no one else. Those who are aligned with you will support you and thats what matters most! Consider having an engagement party at home where you can celebrate with your friends and family. Have a send off dinner! Have your closest members write letters for your to read on your wedding day. Incorporate things with sentimental value in your detail shots as well as things like a bouquet, earrings, hair pins and ties. Last, Just invite them! Eloping doesn’t mean what it used to and your can bring whoever the heck you want.
Announcing
When it comes to announcing that you got hitched, there are plenty of options.
-You could announce with a simple montage of your elopement photos on social media.
-Throw a reception party when you come home and celebrate with all of those who would have loved to be there but you didn’t necessarily want to share the day with.
-Keep it private. You could just not tell anyone.
Legal stuff
Be sure to have your officiant and two witnesses there to sign all the docs. Obtain your marriage license beforehand at the Teton county courthouse
“Call 307-733-4430 to make an appointment before coming to our office.
Only the couple needs to be present for obtaining the marriage license. Please leave family and friends at home.”
Make it official by changing your name! Changing your name has gotten a lot more simple recently with a site called Hitch Switch where you can change your name online in 3 simple steps.
Mistakes to avoid
I feel like I have to insert a shameless plug here and say Not hiring your dream photographer. This is your only shot, make sure it is documented by someone as invested in your elopement as you. Take it from someone who regrets daily that i didn’t hire a reputable professional photographer for my wedding day. so much so i want to plan a do over. Don’t do the do over just hire someone who will capture your day beautifully.
